We in the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines-Southern Mindanao, condemn in highest outrage the actions of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army in Kidapawan who had their binge of trigger happy moments against the defenseless and unarmed starving and protesting farmers.
The statements of Senator Roxas and Governor Lala Mendoza of North Cotabato smack of utter disregard for the lives lost,mangled bodies and traumaed farmers and indigenous people that were victims of the carnage in Kidapawan.
Mendoza even have the gall and callousness to feign insult when the victims started recieving donations of food and assistance, instead of regarding this as compassion and mutual assistance for the bereaved families and wounded/disappeared and traumatised constituents of North Cotabato..
Mendoza should instead order the police and military stationed in Kidapawan to stop manufacturing 'evidences' against the unarmed victims,should stay away and not harass the farmers and their families;should desist in meddling with the relief and rehab of the victims since she cannot give concrete help anyway;
The rage of the whole nation ultimately points to the government of Benigno Aquino III for allowing the peasants and indigenous peoples community to stew in hunger knowing a year ago that El Nino will deal a more devastating effect on the farmers and entire Mindanao countryside. Department of Agriculture's Alcala even issued a statement that there were enough rice supply to last, implying maliciously that the farmers were manipulated to gain propaganda, which was an insult for farmers who sacrificed their lives to be able to be heard.
We call on the entire nation to condemn this another dastardly massacre of Filipino peasants by this regime and demand justice so that the blood spilled by countless peasants for genuine agrarian transformation will not be wasted.
